Prayer Walk through the building

Earlier this month, the governing board met. This group is given the sacred task of honoring the generosity of our congregation by prayerfully forming a budget. Below is printed the prayers that our board prayed as we walked through the church building.

Holy Holy Holy, you are the Lord God Almighty. You are worthy to receive glory and honor and power, because you created all things. It is by your will that they existed and were created. As we sing, pray, and hear your good news, create us anew as your people, full of life abundant, and witnesses to your love of all. Fill us with the power and passion of your Holy Spirit. Open our doors to our neighbors. Open our hearts to you.

God, in you we live, and move, and have our being. Gather us together – no longer Jew nor Gentile, male nor female, rich nor poor, but one in Christ Jesus. Reorient our selfishness, pettiness, small-mindedness, laziness, and plain sinfulness. Knit us so close to you and one another that your light shines through so that our neighbors may know your saving love.

Our Father, in Jesus’ baptism you called him your only begotten Son. And by your grace in our baptism, we may be called brothers and friends of Jesus Christ, and thereby we are blessed to be called your own children. Jesus said, “Allow the children to come to me. Do not hinder them.” We know that Christians are not born, but born again. This means that you, Father, have no grandchildren. So grant us the grace to witness to our children and to all children that you are good and to teach them to walk in your good ways.

God of knowledge and truth. You gifted your people with the Law and the Prophets. You gifted the world with the Word made flesh. Grant us the Wisdom to follow in his steps. Teach us the way of life abundant and life eternal.

Creator, Redeemer, and Sustainer. Out of chaos you created good order. You gifted your people throughout history with leaders, judges, kings, prophets, and priests. Thank you for your continued care of your people in calling each of us to ministry, some teachers, some preachers, some administrators, some helpers, some apostles, all for glory and for the benefit of your body on earth.

Fellowship Hall

God and provider for all of heaven and earth. You continually clothe the flowers and feed the birds. Therefore, we do not worry about our daily bread, but we celebrate and feast in delight of your bounty. We are blessed with all we need to eat with you and be your friends. Bless us by your Spirit to be one with Christ, one with each other, and one in ministry to all the world, until Christ

Faithful God, even though our love fails and our hearts rebel repeatedly, your love remains steadfast. You promised that even though we may be scattered, one day you would gather your people from all directions back into your good and secure community of righteousness and peace. Make us the salt of the earth, the light of the world, the city on the hill, so that all may see the good things you do and praise you, Father of heaven.
